New parks set to increase Jeddah’s green cover and leisure activities

JEDDAH — Residents of Jeddah have been witnessing rapid change in landscaping greenery projects with new hangouts to relax, rejoice, in addition to its plan to grow a million plants in a year through student participation.

Also, the long revamped corniche site is bursting with visitors as it has influenced the weekend plans for leisure of families. Work is in full swing for a mega park project, which is considered as iconic for the city, near the airport.

Andalus Park, a massive park in the neigborhood of Andalus, has now come up. It is a perfect spot for an evening picnic, workout session, or a peaceful walk amid the greenery. It is also best place for children to play on swings and slides, and even for staking smoothly.

Though the park is named after Andalus neighborhood, it is one of the iconic urban landscaping projects of Red Sea bridal city, according to officials.

The park, located on Andalus Road, behind the American consulate, was inaugurated recently by Hani Mohmmed Aburas, Jeddah mayor, and is teeming with families rallying with their children having a gala time in large area full of greenery.

The residents, other than those from nearby areas, are also thronging to the park to spend pleasure time along with their families in the new park.

It also draws the attention of people, who are passing through Andalus Road in Hamra district in the evenings.

The park developed over a total of 25,000 square meters, including 14973 greenery area and 826 square meters area earmarked for children games, has ten various playing equipment installed for children, according to Jeddah Municipality.

It comprises 987 meters length of internal pathways and 6 umbrellas to sit. The Andalus Park also has many different varieties of plants and trees. It has 70 trees and 68 palm trees in addition to 3,000 varieties of plants.

Work is also on full swing to build a mega park known as Basma Park near the airport at the intersection of Al Nozha Road with Madinah Road.

The project of the park is being under the Makkah Emirate and is being developed over 600,000 square meters where 20,000 different trees and 75 palm trees are set to be planted.

It also covers 176,000 square meters of greenery landscaping with state-of-the-art water sprinkling system. It also includes artificial grass for beautification.

The park is considered as iconic for the city and also provide a facelift to the areas near the new airport. The project is being implemented with different government agencies under the observation of Makkah Emirate.
