Madrid
— Legal procedures in the disappearance of Saudi pilot Omar Bin Salman Al-Mutairi will begin in Barcelona on Monday, according to the Saudi Embassy in Spain which is following up on the case.

Al-Mutairi went missing more than 18 days ago on a cruise in Barcelona. Eyewitnesses claim that he either fell or jumped off the ship.

The Spanish authorities reportedly found his personal belongings, passport, wallet and cellphone, visa cards and laptop on the tourism cruise boat.

A Spanish Coast Guard investigation rule out any criminal motive behind the disappearance.

The Saudi Embassy in Spain handed over the report of the investigation to Meshary and Kamal Al-Mutairi, the brothers of the missing Saudi pilot.

The family, however, questioned the findings of the investigation and wanted thorough legal proceedings.

The Saudi Embassy assigned a lawyer who met Meshary and Kamal Al-Mutairi on Saturday morning in Barcelona in the presence of embassy officials.

The brothers confirmed their desire to take necessary legal action questioning the findings of the investigation.

They also called for a review of security and safety procedures at the ship at the time of the incident.

Embassy officials conveyed to the lawyer the embassy’s support for the demands of the brothers and the family.

Saudi Ambassador to Spain telephoned the brothers of the missing pilot and informed them of his full support. He assured them that the embassy was doing everything in its power to follow up on the case on a priority basis.

His brothers traveled to Spain on April 10 to follow up on the case.

Omar Al-Mutairi, 34, worked in Saudi Aramco in Dhahran. He was scheduled to report for work on April 8. When he did not show up, the company contacted the family and the family contacted the Saudi Embassy in Madrid to investigate the case.

Omar Al-Mutairi hailed from Jeddah but lived in Dhahran because of work. He got his Masters degree from Florida University in 2010 and joined Saudi Aramco in 2012 as a civil engineer. Later he was sent on scholarship to learn flying.
