Jeddah — Age is no bar to learning. This adage has been proved right by Saleha Asiri, a Saudi mother.

Saleha recently graduated in media and communications from King Khalid University in Abha while her daughter Maram graduated in business administration.

Saleha had to discontinue her studies when she got married. She could not even finish high school because of her early marriage.

But her passion and perseverance ultimately paid as she overcame all hurdles to pursue her studies.

“I’ve always loved learning, but I did not finish my high school education because I married early and moved to the Eastern Province,” Saleha told Al Arabiya.net. She said that became a mother and never got a chance to resume her studies.

But when her daughter Maram finished her middle school, Saleha’s mother encouraged her to resume her studies.

“Although I am a housewife and have so many responsibilities, I started my studies again,” she said.

She enrolled in the faculty of media and communications.

“The day I was accepted into college was like a feast for me,” she said, adding that her mother always encouraged her to finish her education but unfortunately she died last year and did not get a chance to see her graduate.

She said that her children as well as her friends were supportive as they helped her take care of her home and study. — Al Arabiya English
