New York City — Don Victor Mooney of Queens, New York, who was rescued by a nearly all Filipino crew aboard MV Norfolk in 2011 while attempting to row across the Atlantic Ocean, will cycle in New York and UAE in commemoration for the Year of Zayed this summer.

The UAE is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founder, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nayhan.

Don Victor Mooney named his row boat after the Emirati leader.

On his fourth attempt to row across the Atlantic Ocean for AIDS, Don Mooney finally completed his task — a journey that took 21 months in 2015.

Sheikh Zayed left us a legacy of determination. It’s a privilege to honor him in this way and to share his legacy, said Don Victor Mooney. — SG
