JEDDAH — Abeer Medical Group, a leading healthcare provider in the Middle East, launched on Saturday a Kingdomwide health campaign titled “Healthy makes you wealthy this Ramadan’. The campaign is aimed at making aware to people of all nationalities about the health benefits of fasting as well as to encourage them to refrain from unhealthy ways of eating during the fasting month. As part of the campaign, the group announced an incentive of SR700 for those who reduce seven kilograms of weight within the seven-week campaign period.

Dr. Jemshith Ahmed, vice president of Abeer Group, urged all people to visit the nearest Abeer medical center or its website (www.abeergroup.com) to register in order to participate in the contest. It is mandatory for all the contestants to undergo three phases of medical evaluation at one of the Abeer medical centers that is spread all over the Kingdom.

Dr. Ahmed Alungal, executive director of Abeer Group, said the group is kick-starting the campaign at a time when there are growing cases of obesity in the Kingdom, and the launch of the campaign is with the firm conviction that Ramadan is the most ideal month in the year to say goodbye to extra weight and obesity that tend to increase the risk of a person being afflicted with many health problems, including heart diseases and strokes.

In line with its mass corporate social responsibility drives, Abeer Group is spearheading initiatives aimed at fostering community health and healthy lifestyles. As part of its anti-diabetes campaign, some 4,500 students of International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) formed the largest picture mosaic on the World Diabetes Day on 14 Nov. 2017 and that enabled the group enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

Dr. Jemshith said the resounding success of the anti-smoking campaign last year gave a fillip to the group to come up with tackling obesity, a major health disorder as identified in the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. “Obesity and diseases due to smoking are the two major health hazards facing the people of Saudi Arabia, especially the youngsters,” he said noting that unhealthy eating habits is the main villain causing obesity.

He said the contestants would be supplied with health tips and do’s and don’ts on a daily basis through the social media platforms during the campaign period. “Apart from enlightening people on the eating regulations in Islam and dietary advices by the Prophet (peace be upon him), Abeer Group underscored the need to practice these rules vigorously so as to take advantage of the great health benefits coupled with substantial weight loss. There is also a thrust in the campaign to encourage regulating food intake with embracing controlled, healthy and nutritious ingredients along with stay aloof from junk food culture during the fasting month and eventually throughout the life,” Dr. Jemshith said, adding the campaign targets half a million people and all evaluations are free of charge at exclusive departments at each clinic.

On his part, Abdul Rahman, marketing and business department manager, said the registration can be done online but the contestants have to come personally to clinics for evaluations. “The first evaluation will be held during the first phase of the campaign starting from May 12 to May 19. The mid evaluation phase is from June 9 to 15 and final evaluation will be held between June 28 and 30, and those contestants who managed to shed their weight by 7 kg by the end of the campaign will be awarded SR700.

The campaign tips, mainly focusing on quantity and quality of food intake and types of physical exercise, will be supplied in Arabic and English languages. More information and queries about the campaign can be had from the group’s website and uniform toll free number 9200 15888.
