RIYADH — The German Embassy here hosted a screening of three Saudi short movies in the presence of the directors on Monday evening. More than 80 guests, including several Saudi filmmakers and artists as well as members of the German community and the Saudi general public attended.
In the presence of the directors, the films “A photographic memory” by Tareq Yosef Aldakheelallah as well as “Daesh Girl” and “The Wife of the Rose” by Abdulmohsen Almutairi were shown.
Following the screening, the directors took questions in a Q&A session. For the filmmakers this was an opportunity to interact with the audience and to test the reactions of the very diverse group of spectators.
In addition, directors and audience discussed the new possibilities following the opening of cinemas and the announcement of increased film funding in Saudi Arabia.
The event was part of a series of Saudi movie screenings at the Embassy, with the next screening being planned after the summer break.
“For us these screenings are a chance to provide a forum for exchange and dialogue between the Saudi film scene, the diplomatic community and the general public at large,” said Dr. Rafael Heinisch, the cultural attaché at the Embassy. — SG
