MADINAH — The judicial authorities have sentenced a man to eight years in prison and 500 lashes for assaulting a judge, Al-Madina reported.

On April 22, a man came to the court to file an appeal on a verdict. The man proceeded to threaten the judge and then lunged at him. The security officers pulled the man away from the judge and sent him to police.

In a statement issued then, Minister of Justice Sheikh Waleed Al-Samaani said protecting members of the judicial authority is a top priority and such incidents will not be tolerated.

“The ministry will increase the security in its courts and will take firm action against assaulters in such situations. Judges, lawyers and everyone working to serve justice to the people should be respected and admired for their sacrifice and time. It is a prestigious title to be a judge and it should get its deserved respect,” said Al-Samaani.
