Saudi Arabia condemns attack on Chechnya church

RIYADH - Saudi Arabia on Monday strongly condemned the armed attack on a church in the Russian republic of Chechnya which resulted in the killing of a number of people, an official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The source offered the Kingdom’s condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims as well as to the government and the people of Russia, stressing the Kingdom’s absolute rejection of all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also denounced the attack. In a statement, OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen voiced strong denunciation of the terrorist attack and offered condolences to the families of the victims. He reiterated OIC’s firm stance rejecting all forms of violence, extremism and terrorism regardless of its source and motives.

Four people attacked the Orthodox Michael Church in Chechnya’s capital Grozny on Saturday, killing two policemen and a churchgoer, Russia’s investigative committee said in a statement.
