Encourage youth, children to be productive, families urged

JEDDAH — Several education specialists have called on the need for children and youth to best invest their time during this year long vacation and be productive. They said it is essential to protect youth against inappropriate ideologies and turn them into human capital who are capable of contributing to the country.

Abdullah Al-Thaqafi, general manager of the education department at Jeddah, said the extra curriculum activities that they present at different schools tend to provide a chance to discover the capabilities and creativity of students which can be used outside the schools as well. He also stressed on the role of families to guide children and youth to use smartphones and tablets in a beneficial way and regulate the use of such devices. Families, he added, should explain the disadvantages of the excessive use of smart devices.

He added that the summer vacation should be used to invest the different cultural and creative capabilities of children and youth to enhance their skills. During the academic year, he added, the education department has organized different cultural and scientific competitions and provided honors to distinguished competitors in order to foster a culture of enhancing physical, culture and art skills.

Zaki Edris, an investor in the education sector and general supervisor of Al-Anjal School, highlighted the need to protect children and youth through providing advanced pedagogical methods in a way that enhances their capacities, knowledge, and skills. He added that youth need to be protected against anything that may negatively affect its role in society such as inappropriate ideologies.

Edris highlighted the importance of trips and special projects which can help students develop problem-solving techniques, boost students’ enthusiasm and help them discover their talents.

Meanwhile, Abdulaziz Al-Amari, dean of social and cultural activities at the deanship of student affairs at King Abdulaziz University, noted that extra curriculum activities provide quality education to students. He added such activities tend to enhance the education process, contribute to improving the psychological well-being of students, enhance self-belonging to the country and help discover new talents.
