The United States: A premier destination for investment

Christopher Henzel

As the Chargé d’Affaires at the US embassy to Saudi Arabia, I invite Saudi business leaders and institutional investors to participate in this year’s SelectUSA Summit, to be held in Washington, DC June 20 – 22. The United States is the world’s premier destination for foreign direct investment. The SelectUSA investment forum not only unlocks attractive opportunities for individual and institutional investors, it also helps strengthen and deepen the enduring economic ties between the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These ties enable mutually beneficial investment and growth to flourish across education, healthcare, energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, technology, entertainment, agriculture, and many other sectors.

Investors today have options and seek rewarding and sustained returns with predictable and manageable risks. The United States offers both. As a result, international investors continue to look at our diverse investment opportunities supported by well-developed investment laws and institutions, access to huge internal and external markets and capital, “USA” global brand appeal, cutting-edge scientific and technological innovations, and incentives across an array of economic sectors and regions. Each year since 2013, the United States Department of Commerce has organized the SelectUSA Summit, giving international and domestic investors a platform for exploring promising and diverse investment opportunities, enticing incentives, and support services from throughout the United States under one roof.

Themed “Invest Here. Grow Here. Succeed Here,” the 2018 Summit focuses on the strategic and practical advantages of investing in America’s unique and diverse innovation, knowledge, and technology platforms. The Summit will also offer an investment “academy” where first-time investors can gain insights into the investment environment, including the tools and resources necessary for building and executing an effective investment strategy.

President Trump and Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross plan to address the Summit. High-profile CEOs, industry and business leaders, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders will share their insights on opportunities now and on the horizon. Participants will obtain first-hand perspectives on investment trends from top-notch industry experts and analysts. In addition, the Summit will facilitate carefully curated meetings between potential investors and state economic development representatives to explore mutually beneficial opportunities.

The 2017 SelectUSA Summit drew 2,800 participants from 60 international markets and 51 US states and territories, including 19 Saudi business leaders and firms. Attendees networked with top executives and senior federal and state officials, and utilized a matchmaking system to conduct over 4,000 business meetings. Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Building on this success, the US Embassy is now organizing a delegation of potential Saudi investors to participate in the 2018 SelectUSA Summit.

We hope to see you at the 2018 SelectUSA Summit. You can find more information by visiting www.SelectUSASummit.US or by contacting the US Commercial Service Section at the US Embassy in Riyadh, or at our Consulates General in Jeddah or Dhahran: at https://sa.usembassy.gov and clicking on the “business” tab.
