Saudi women launch all-female ambulance service

June 27, 2018

Al-Khobar — Saudi female doctors have launched an ambulance service with all female staff to serve women, according to Al Arabiya English.

A team of female doctors at a government hospital in Al-Khobar in the Eastern Province came up with the idea following the lifting of ban on women driving.

Dr Amal Al-Sulaibekh, one of the team members, said the idea was to channel their humanitarian efforts.

Paramedics and drivers of the ambulance will respond to distress calls from women in the Eastern Province as part of a community service project aimed at giving women more privacy.

Al-Sulaibekh said working in emergency requires doctors to stay on call around the clock. — SG
