Egyptian Opera enthralls Jeddah audience at Dar Al Hekma University

JEDDAH — The magic of a brilliant music performance by 45 artists from the ‘Cairo Opera House’ enthralled the people from all walks of life here in Jeddah on Thursday night at Dar Al Hekma University’s auditorium.

The concert was organized under the auspices of the Saudi General Authority of Culture, which stated that Cairo Opera House was chosen to perform in various parts of the Kingdom in such a huge concert because of its popularity among all Saudis. This concert comes as part of the cultural openness project adopted by the Saudi government.

The concert was performed by Maestro Mustafa Helmi and bright opera-singers. The hall of the Dar Al Hekma University was packed to its capacity. Literally, the audience got together in hot summer time to enjoy beautiful, entertaining music. For them, indeed, it was a great experience.

The opera played pieces for famous Egyptian singers including legendary Egyptians singers Abdul Wahab, Umm Kulthum, Abdul Halim Hafiz, Shadia, Najat Al-Saghira and others.

The vocalists sang popular national and romantic songs, much to the delight of the audience and the attended audience chanted and clapped along with the musicians as they played a rendition of popular songs by Um Kalthum and Abdulhalim Hafez.

Egypt’s Consul General Dr. Hazem Ramadan who was among the audience spoke to Saudi Gazette and said: “The show was magnificent and refreshing,” proving that the Egyptian music scene remains vibrant and that great talents exist among the younger generation of Egyptian singers and musicians.

Asked how he felt about bringing Cairo Opera House to perform in Riyadh, Abha, and Jeddah, he praised the newly minted cultural connection between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

He said Egypt will continue to invite cultural troupes to enhance bilateral relations between Cairo and Saudi Arabia using the tool of culture.

The night event was attended by a large number of guests including a number of diplomats, local figures, art lovers, students of DAH and various local media.
