Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH – In line with implementation of a directive from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Tanzanian conjoined twins — Melnis and Anisia — were admitted to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh for medical checkups. Accompanied by their mother and a medical team, they arrived at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Monday from Dar es Salaam.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, adviser at the Royal Court and supervisor general of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), said the condition of the twins, who are five months and three weeks old, is stable and they need to undergo a thorough medical examination to determine the possibility of surgical separation.
He praised the King’s humanitarian gesture, saying this comes as an extension of the efforts being exerted by Saudi Arabia and its wise leadership to end human sufferings around the world. It confirms the keenness of the King and the Crown Prince on humanitarian work, he added.
The conjoined twins were transferred from the Muhumbili National Hospital to Dar es Salaam airport and from there airlifted to the Kingdom thanks to the efforts made by the Saudi Embassy in Tanzania, in coordination with the Tanzanian government. The twins' expenses are being met by the Saudi government.
