RIYADH — Several members of the Shoura Council criticized the Ministry of Labor and Social Development for its failure in effectively implementing Saudization in some key sectors, especially the health sector.

There was also a proposal for the creation of a national observatory for unemployment to help the decision makers formulate plans and policies for flawless implementation of Saudization.

Abdullah Al-Otaibi, a member, suggested that the ministry has to exert efforts to Saudize most of the private sector jobs in cooperation and coordination with the concerned government and private agencies and departments.

This is essential to create appropriate environment for employing Saudis with the participation of the private sector.

Al-Otaibi said that the ministry’s efforts in implementing Saudization in some specialized sectors are not up to the mark.

“Saudizing the health sector is an essential need of the hour as it will produce a positive impact on building a vital society through major involvement of young Saudi men and women,” he said.

“There should be intensive efforts to implement Saudization in many health specialties such as clinical pharmacies, medical laboratories, and naturopathy. There is a huge increase in the number of Saudi degree and diploma holders in various health specialties,” he said, adding that the tendency, on the part of Saudi degree holders to wait for government jobs, has been instrumental in rising unemployment rate among this section of Saudis.

Dr. Khaled Al-Saud, another member, made a proposal for creation of national observatory for unemployment to help the decision makers formulate plans and policies supportive to find jobs for young Saudi men and women in each sector instead of addressing this at a macro level.

Nora Al-Shaban said that there are flaws in the services being extended to people with special needs and this should be addressed by creating specialized centers for this segment of society.
