In a bid to find and cultivate the best quality of coffee, Nespresso partnered with local coffee farming experts across five beautiful countries for a new collection of distinct coffee flavors.

Each of the delicious Master Origin coffees from Indonesia, Ethopia, India, Nicaragua and Colombia can be enjoyed as an Espresso or as a Lungo using a Nespresso machine. At a recent Master Origin event in Dubai, held at One and Only Royal Mirage, the Nespresso team set up an interactive sensory experience for guests who embarked on a stimulating journey with a new passport. The first stage helps you identify the elements in each of the five flavors until you discover your personal favorite. Guests were then escorted to a hall, passing through a projector wall depicting sounds and scenes from the five Master Origin countries. Inside, five stalls were laid out representing each country with samples of Nespresso capsules and machines.

Representatives spoke about the process of cultivating coffee in different regions and discussed Nespresso’s AAA Sustainable Quality Program. At the Master Origin India booth, Nespresso’s representative said the company is working closely with farmers and their environment to ensure a better lifestyle. The company works with more than 70,000 farmers in 12 countries through its AAA Sustainable Quality Program to embed sustainability practices on farms and the surrounding landscapes. “We have been working together to help farmers and their communities as well as improving their coffee quality and productivity,” said a Nespresso agent representing Master Origin Indonesia. Launched in 2003 in collaboration with The Rainforest Alliance, the program helps to improve the yield and quality of harvests, ensuring a sustainable supply of high quality coffee and improving livelihoods of farmers and their communities. The company reportedly collects and recycles up to 86% of all its capsules but aims to raise that to 100 per cent by 2020. Nespresso also gives dry coffee grounds from used capsules to farmers, who use them as fertilizers.

Master Origin Colombia

Flavour profile: Fruity & Vibrant Processing technique: Late harvest

The coffee is left to mature on the branch much later, and with each new day that dawns, each individual cherry must be assessed and picked only if it’s perfectly ready.

Master Origin Nicaragua

Flavour profile: Sweet & Harmonious Processing technique: Black honey

In the highland vales of Nicaragua, the black honey coffee is hand raked every hour under the hot sun to absorb the sweet flavours from its fruit.

Master Origin India

Flavour profile: Intense & Spicy Processing technique: Monsoon

The powerful wet monsoon winds sweep into India’s Malabar coasts for months.

Master Origin Ethiopia

Flavour profile: Flowery & Bright Processing technique: Natural dry processing

The local farmers in Ethiopia have perfected the ancient dry-processing technique over many years, drying their whole coffee cherries in the highland sun to cultivate delicate fruity flavours.

Master Origin Indonesia

Flavour profile: Rich & Woody Processing technique: Wet hulling

The constant humidity in Sumatra has led farmers to hull their beans when still wet, creating a distinctly rich, velvety texture and wild, woody taste.

“Processing techniques play a hugely important role in the final coffee profile and with the Master Origin coffees we wanted to toy with this idea and see how we could use a mix of traditional, new and adapted methods to produce five distinct and original coffees. Together with the local farmers, we took risks and challenged ourselves, only made possible thanks to the mutual trust and support built by the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality Program,” Karsten Ranitzsch, Head of Coffee at Nespresso said. Headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, currently Nespresso operates in 69 countries and has more than 12,000 employees.

Master Origin coffees are now a permanent addition to the Nespresso coffee range and are available in Nespresso boutiques worldwide, as well as online at www.buynespresso.com
