RIYADH —
Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Supreme Judiciary Council Waleed Al-Samaani announced on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia will enter a new era of digital transformation in the field of documentation from Nov. 18 (Rabi Al-Awwal 10).

The minister has instructed the notaries to dispense paper transactions in all documentation work from that day, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Al-Samaani made the remarks while launching two electronic services for the issuance of powers of attorney and their documentation or attestation online.

“The first service will enable the beneficiaries to take advantage of notary services regarding powers of attorney without visiting the notarial offices. The services will be made available to those who fulfilled the terms and conditions through the Absher service. The power of attorney will be sent to beneficiary through mobile phone, which is linked with Absher,” he said.

According to the minister, paper transactions will be dispensed with in the process of documentation or attestation of power of attorneys. The documented soft copy will be sent to the beneficiary’s mobile phone. He said that the ministry is working on the complete digital transformation of documentary services and judicial work. “The two new services are part of a string of online services introduced by the ministry to enhance its digital transformation process. This also contributes to speeding up and simplifying the judicial process.”

Al-Samaani said the ministry has set up the Agency for Digital Transformation and Information Technology and there are several departments under it with the objective of achieving the goal of digital transformation. “This new digital phase of the documentation sector comes within the framework of achieving the ministry’s key objective of digital transformation of its functioning and services so as to improve the quality of services provided to beneficiaries and increase their reliability after totally dispensing with paper transactions,” he added.
