TAIF — A contractor allegedly abandoned the construction of the Bani Saad exit, which was supposed to connect several villages in Maisan area of Taif governorate, with the highway.

Saad Al-Nufaie said Bani Saad has a population of 250,000 people who were looking forward to the opening of the exit that will allow them to easily travel and meet their relatives in neighboring villages.

“We all saw a contractor coming in and bringing in his construction equipment. We were excited to see the development but then he stopped work at the project site and withdrew most of his equipment only leaving behind one piece of machinery,” said Al-Nufaie.

He said leaving the project unfinished is a waste of money. The pathway is only 20 meters long and should have been completed a long time ago.

Awadh Al-Otaibi said suspension of the project was not only affecting the project itself but also other businesses in the area because they depend on customers from nearby areas and suburbs.

Khalid Al-Harthy said the authorities need to intervene and get the project on course because it is affecting the lives of 250,000 people.

“Whenever there is an inspection by the municipality the contractor brings back his workers and equipment and they would be working on the project all day.

The moment the inspectors leave the contractor takes his workers and equipment away and disappear,” said Al-Nufaie.
