Saudi Gazette Report

DAMMAM
— Deaths resulting from traffic accidents dropped by 36 percent in 2018, the Makkah daily reported on Sunday quoting informed sources.

The paper said there were 18 deaths in every 100,000 accidents while about two years ago it was 27 deaths for the same number of accidents.

According to the sources, there were 6,025 deaths resulting from traffic accidents in 2018, which is a drop of about 36 percent compared to last year.

The sources said this positive result was planned to be achieved by 2020 but has been expedited due to the concerted efforts by a number of the concerned authorities.

They said the efforts to reduce the traffic accidents were made by the Directorate General of Traffic, the road security, the engineering sectors of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and the municipalities and the ministries of education and health. — SG
