JEDDAH — As part of its efforts to enhance cooperation in the cultural field and encourage knowledge exchange between cultures, King Faisal Prize launched on Tuesday the “One Hundred and One Books” project in cooperation with Institut Du Monde Arabe in Paris.

The project aims to publish books introducing a number of Arabic and French scientists and scholars who have contributed to communication between the two cultures.

The launch event at Institute Du Monde Arabe witnessed the announcement of the publication of five books in Arabic and five books in French, marking the first stage of the project.

The event was organized under the patronage of Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, chairman of King Faisal Prize Board, represented by Prince Sultan Bin Khaled Al-Faisal.

The event was attended by Jack Lang, president of the Institut Du Monde Arabe; Dr. Abdulaziz Alsebail, secretary-general of King Faisal Prize; and Dr. Moajab Al-Zahrani, director general of the Institut.

The initiative comes as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of King Faisal Prize and its objectives to spread knowledge through communication with other cultures, and raise awareness about the Arab culture.

The books published under this project will shed light on the contributions of French scholars in introducing Arabic culture in various parts of the world as well as the contributions of Arab scholars in introducing the French culture to the Arab region.

The “One Hundred and One Books” project covers several French and Arab researchers and scientists, including 40 French and 60 Arab personalities who have contributed to the development of cultural dialogue and engagement between the countries on the two shores of the Mediterranean. — SG
