— The Help Center organized its annual event “Let’s Walk the Walk Together 7” on Thursday at Attallah Center on the Jeddah Corniche.

Jeddah Mayor Saleh Al-Turki, Dr. Heidid Al-Askary, managing director for diversity, inclusion and partnerships at General Sports Authority, and Dr. Mohammed Bajubair, assistant director of Jeddah Health Affairs, attended the event.

The aim of organizing the event was to promote and foster the concept of sport among persons with disabilities as well as to demonstrate their abilities. There were 7 races, classified according to age and the health status of the participants.

“Over the years, we focused on training and workout to raise the fitness of the participants, thus this year the race distance has been increased to 2,000 meters,” the organizers said in a press release.

The event was attended by more than 20 specialized centers in Jeddah and Makkah. The number of participants reached about 700 persons with disabilities, who preformed in front of some 2,000 spectators.

The event was held with the support of Ghandour as the official sponsor, as well as EA Juffali & Brothers and Zahid Group as the golden sponsors.

Awareness booths in different fields were set up at the venue by the Ministry of Health, Bliss Runners, Zee Club, Jeddah Bloggers, Darej Group, Masafat Club, and Red Sea Gate.

Volunteer groups such as Montaha team, Snap team, Sawasih team, and NuKhbat Al Khair group, joined the event to support the athletes. In addition, there were volunteers from different schools, Jeddah Private, KIMS, Dar Jana, JIS, Sedar, Academy Schools, and the Faculty of Maritime Studies.

A group of athletes from the SpoonFed health club, and a number of sport volunteers from EA Juffali & Brothers, Tedka Co., Zee Club, Hejaz Runners, Jeddah Athletes, Bliss Runners, Masafat Club, Saudi Enaya and Sweat Army GYM were also helping and supporting the athletes with disabilities.

Dr. Maha Al-Juffali, director and supervising trustee of the Help Center, commended the role of government agencies, especially the Emirate of Makkah Province, the Municipality of Jeddah, the Ministry of Health, Public Security, Traffic Police, Civil Defense and Saudi Red Crescent for their active participation and continuous support in achieving our mission towards our children with disabilities.

She also thanked Lina Almaeena, a member of the Shoura Council, who also actively supported the event.

The female athletes who finished the 2,000-meter race in a record time were Farah Al-Ashhab from Tender Loving Care, Lama Al-Douqi from Help Center, and Rahaf Al-Harthi from Help Center.

Husain Al-Sulaifi from Tender Loving Care, Abdullah Bashawri from Together Center and Mohammed Abdulrahman from Irada Center were the male athletes the 2,000-meter race in a record time.
