JEDDAH — A die-hard fan of Jeddah’s Al-Ahli club collapsed and died as a result of a heart attack following his team’s defeat at King Abdullah Sport City here on Saturday.
The match ended in favor of the Riyadh-based Al-Shabab 1-0. Muhyudeen Baz had been an Ahli fan since his childhood and he used to attend matches the club played.
On the day of the match, he took three of his sons with him to the match. He had told his brother before he left that he would invite him to dinner if Ahli won the match. He never knew that he would not be able to fulfill that promise or take his sons back home, Instead, he ended up on the back of an ambulance that rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
Baz was working in a construction company and is survived by five children, the youngest whom is only one year. Baz felt a chest pain after the match ended in favor of Al-Shabab. The lone goal of the match was scored during the injury time.
Large number of Ahli fans along with the club administration attended the funeral of Baz at his residence in Al-Rawdah district in north Jeddah.
His brother broke down with emotion when he said he spoke to his brother before the match and they promised to meet for dinner after the match.
He said his brother was a loyal fan of Al-Ahli and he never missed a match they played in Jeddah.
He said his brother was giving too many pieces of advice to his children as if he knew that he was going to die soon.
He said the death of his brother should be a message to all football fans to stay away from sport fanaticism.
The president of Al-Ahli Club expressed his condolences to the bereaved family. The club administration has decided to donate the income from an upcoming match to the family.
