Aden — A hard-won truce in the battleground Yemeni city of Hodeida will collapse if rebel violations persist and the United Nations does not intervene, the Coalition said on Wednesday.
“A total of 21 violations since ceasefire commencement have come to our notice,” a coalition source said.
“If the UN continues to drag the chain and take too long to get into the (military) theater, they will lose the opportunity altogether... and the agreement will turn a dead duck,” the source said.
The Yemeni Foreign Minister, Khalid Al-Yamani, said that the Yemeni government cannot go to the next round of talks unless security and stability return to Hodeida, in addition to achieving all what was agreed on in Stockholm.
Yamani confirmed in an interview with Al-Arabiya that Houthis’ acceptance of executing the Hodeida deal draws the conflict to a closer end.
He also considered the outcomes of the peace talks a “victory” for the legitimate government and the peace process in Yemen.
The foreign minister also pointed out that the old mechanism that the UN used to monitor arms imports from Iran to Houthi militias was not able to fully control the situation due to its base being in Djibouti.
Meanwhile, the Coalition destroyed a drone and launch pad at Sanaa International Airport.
The drone was in the aircraft in preparation for launch.
The Coalition said targeting a drone at Sanaa airport conforms to international humanitarian law and its customary rules; preventive measures taken.
Terrorist Houthi militias are using Sanaa airport as military barrack in violation of international humanitarian law, the Coalition said.
