RIYADH — An international healthcare group organized a ceremony in Riyadh to celebrate the graduation of the 2nd batch of trainees who successfully completed "The Medical Representative Development Program".

The program was started by

Novartis through its Saudi affiliate SAPAHD in October 2018. The batch included 20 Saudi pharmacy graduates, who fulfilled the requirements of the long-term training to prepare them for work offers in the company.

The graduates were selected after interviews and evaluations carried out by the company's human resources team. The courses included field training and opportunities to accompany healthcare representatives to hospitals. The duration of the program, which is held twice a year, is 12 weeks. Certificates were distributed to the trainees on Dec. 24, 2018, in the presence of company officials and employees as well as media representatives.

"The qualification and development of Saudi competencies is among our top priorities in consolidation of the strategic goals of the Vision 2030. Through our training initiatives, including the training of Saudi pharmacy graduates, we seek to recruit new graduates and provide them with career opportunities that qualify them to work in this industry," said Akif Tashkandi, the head of human resources at the company.

"Our students in this training program are the future pharmacists who will carry the banner of meeting the needs of the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry in the Kingdom, and hence, providing them with the necessary work experience will considerably help them invest their skills in the marketing of medicines," Tashkandi added.

Othman Al-Mutlaq, the company's general manager in Saudi Arabia, explained that the company senses the role that it has to play locally as a participant in the development and promotion of the pharmaceutical industry through many initiatives that it presents based on utilizing the expertise of the global partner Novartis.

One of the graduates commented, "I thank the company and the program for providing us with this valuable opportunity to acquire the skills and work experience in the pharmacy profession. The program will help me apply what I have studied in the classroom to real life situations."

The training programs include a wide range of lectures that provide the trainees with some of the important work basics and communication skills, in addition to the importance of adhering to the medical regulations and laws in the Kingdom. Through the program, the company offered jobs to the graduates. Dozens of them were already been recruited in 2018. — SG
