FOSA science expo, speech contest a big draw

JEDDAH –
The Jeddah Chapter of Farook College Old Students’ Association (FOSA) organized science exhibition and speech contest recently at the Jeddah National Hospital (JNH) Auditorium. A large number of people, including families of FOSA members, students and their parents came to watch the exhibition as well as to encourage the speech contestants.

The science exhibition, which showcased the students’ creative skills and the passion for innovation, was an eye-opener on various contemporary topics. Inaugurating the exhibition, Dr. Amina Mohammed Ali, director of JNH Academic and Training Center, said that the exhibits were highly impressive and will help the public to enhance their awareness on science and technological inventions and innovations.

Students from various schools in the city participated in the event with their innovative exhibits. The team, comprising of Shahin Roomy, Shahima Shirin and Kijra from Al Wurood International School bagged the first prize in the exhibition. The team of Ansu Shibu, Adnan and Nandan from International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) emerged as second prizewinners while Stinci, Jumana and Usman from Ahdab International School secured the third prize.

P.M. Ameerali inaugurated the speech contest, in which there were 40 participants representing various schools in Jeddah. Pritpal Kaur from IISJ bagged the first prize while Aaliy Jefri from IISJ and Alana Anees from Novel School secured the second and third positions respectively.

All the participants were presented with certificates and mementos and the winners were awarded with special prizes. Dr. Raju S. Menon, assistant professor of physiology at the Health Sciences Faculty of Riyadh’s King Saud University, delivered the keynote address on “Neuro Science.”

A fond farewell party was given to former President of FOSA Jeddah Abdul Majeed Ponnani, who is returning home for good after leaving a rich legacy of over 41 years of service in the Kingdom.

Assain Illikkal, Majeed Naha, Suneer, KTA Muneer, Shaji Arimbrathodi, Ismail Master and Abdurabb Pallikkal distributed the prizes. The dignitaries who attended the function included Noufal Palakkoth, Shanvas Thalappil, KT Aboobacker, Adv. Shamudheen, and Razak Master.

Mubarak, Mansoor, Mumthaz, Asha and Shiju led the music concert held on the occasion.

The program began with recitation of a few verses from the Holy Qur’an by Niya Suneer. FOSA Jeddah Chapter President Ashraf Meleveettil presided over the event in which General Secretary Nasser Jamal welcomed the gathering and Treasurer Nasser Feroke proposed a vote of thanks. Afrah Shirine Meleveettil and Amrina Qaisar were the masters of the ceremony.

Zahid Koyappathodi, Salih Kavot, Haris Thoonicheri, CH Basheer, Moidu Palayat, Salam Chaliyam and Mohamed Haneef KM were among the organizers of the event.
