RIYADH — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman briefed the Council of Ministers on the results of talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during the Cabinet meeting the Monarch presided over here Tuesday.

Pompeo had also held discussions on a wide range of issues with Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense.

The talks focused on a review of the historic relations between the two friendly countries and discussion of the latest developments in the Middle East and efforts being exerted toward them, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said.

Upon the recommendation by the Council of Economic and Development Affairs (CEDA), the Council of Ministers approved several penalties to be imposed on violators of the regulations, rules and criteria organizing issuance of licenses for setting up sports facilities.

These regulations, rules and criteria were laid down by the General Sports Authority (GSA).

The penalties include temporary cessation of the activity, cancelation of the facility’s license and a fine not exceeding SR50,000.

The Board of Directors of GSA shall set a classification of the violations depending on the gravity of the violation or its repetition, specifying the penalties, which are mentioned above.

The Council lauded what was stressed by King Salman during his inauguration of the Sustainable Rural Agricultural Development Program 2025 on his pride over the qualified national manpower in all fields. The Program targets several promising sectors.

In his statement to SPA following the Cabinet meeting, the Minister of Media Turki Al-Shabanah said the Council discussed the announcement by the Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources on the Kingdom’s fixed oil and gas reserves, confirmed by independent certification conducted by leading consultants De Golyer and MacNaughton.

The Council valued the tireless work by the Presidency of State Security and its staff in pursuing criminals, who pose a threat to the country’s security, potentials and social welfare. In this connection, the Council referred to the preemptive strike against the terrorist cell of seven wanted militants in Al-Qatif, who were about to carry out an imminent criminal act. — SG/SPA
