DAMMAM —
The Ministry of Labor and Social Development (MLSD) has denied reports circulating on social media that it had fixed a maximum amount of SR7,000 as the fee for the recruitment of house helps from abroad, according to a report in Makkah daily on Tuesday.

While strongly denying the reports published on social media, especially Twitter, the ministry’s spokesman Khaled Aba Al-Khail said this news was totally bare of truth.

“People should look for news in their original sources and not on social media,” he added.

He said all licensed recruitment offices and companies are registered on the ministry’s Musanid electronic gate with the price for recruitment clearly stated.

Many Saudis claimed on social media that the recruitment offices and companies were asked not to charge more than SR7,000 for hiring drivers and housemaids from any part of the world.

The spokesman said the ministry started a crackdown on recruitment offices that violated the law and has closed down a number of them.
