New York — UN Undersecretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix praised the Yemeni government’s fruitful cooperation with the UN team in supporting the implementation of the Hodeida agreement.

This came during his meeting with Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations Abdullah Al-Saadi.

Lacroix affirmed the role played by Yemen through its participation in the peacekeeping force, and promised to reconsider the resumption of Yemen’s participation in peacekeeping forces in the near future, according to the Yemeni official news agency.

Al-Saadi stressed the importance of resuming Yemen’s participation in the United Nations peacekeeping forces.

Under the agreement struck in Sweden on Feb. 17, fighters would redeploy outside the ports and away from areas that are key to the humanitarian relief effort in Yemen.

The ports are in the Houthi-held west of the country. — Agencies
