Washington — Iranian regime propagandists have infiltrated some US schools and mosques, according to findings of Clarion Project, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit organization founded in 2006.
It has discovered that a private Islamic school in Dearborn, Michigan, is linked to diehard supporters of Hezbollah and the Iranian regime. The school teaches students from kindergarten through 9th grade.
The project discovered last year that a sheikh tied to the Iranian regime was teaching at two Maryland Islamic schools and leading a mosque in the state and taught at another.
It also discovered that Alavi Foundation, an Iranian front group, funds 60 Islamic organizations in the US, including Persian and Islamic schools and mosques with private schools and classes for teenagers and children.
In 2009, federal prosecutors charged that the Alavi Foundation was a front group for the Iranian government and violated US law by transferring rental income from its properties to Iran’s Bank Melli, which was sanctioned in 2007 for supporting the Iranian nuclear program.
Great Revelations Academy in Dearborn was founded in 2015 by open supporters of Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah, a key inspirer of Hezbollah.
One of the academy’s founders, Fouad Bayoun, told Arab-American News that one of the purposes of creating the school was to pass along Fadlallah’s teachings to children in America.
In Maryland, Clarion Project reported in August that a radical pro-regime cleric runs the Jafaria Islamic School, which teaches children between the ages of five and 15.
In Texas, the Islamic Education Center of Houston was caught celebrating the 1979 Iranian Revolution and praising Khamenei.
