IN the presence of Sheikh Saleh bin Ali Al Turki, Mayor of Jeddah, the US Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded Diyar Al Salam Residences the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), which is the first private residential LEED-awarded project in the Kingdom held on the site of the project, last Wednesday.

The CEO of Lifestyle Developers, Engineer Sultan Subhi Batterjee, said to be awarded the LEED, which means leadership in energy and environmental design, is a redefinition of how we think about the places and spaces where we live and work. This will contribute to achieving Vision 2030 of the Kingdom in terms of energy, environmental conservation and life quality.

The mayor of Jeddah expressed his appreciation for this pioneering project, which serves a large group of the society, especially the youth. He believes that this project will be the start and the inspiration for many Sustainable Green projects in the western region and Saudi that will impact and improve the quality of life.

Diyar Al Salam Residences Project aims to provide and facilitate a contemporary and unique lifestyle as new technologies have been introduced and unprecedented initiatives have been undertaken in the Kingdom.

The project is characterized by being equipped with the first charging stations for electric cars as a residential project in the Kingdom. Moreover, bicycle parking facility is

also available to encourage people to use bicycles and do more physical exercise. Recycling containers are also provided throughout the project to spread and foster the recycling culture and behavior and make it an early-acquired habit for the next generation to be practiced in homes and not only in commercial places. An official partnership was signed with Al-Ber Charity Association in Jeddah to provide a special fund for donors to further facilitate donations and encourage people to act accordingly.

The project is also characterized by a high level of energy efficiency through the use of energy-saving lighting and high-efficiency air conditioning units and thermal insulation of exterior building facades. The design is mainly featured by glass facades to enjoy the natural light coming in during the daytime in order to do without electric lighting to save energy.

Furthermore, all household appliances are carefully selected to ensure high-energy efficiency. On the other hand, water consumption has been taken into consideration through the use of air conditioning filters with water, which ensures comfort and saving at the same time. Likewise, smart digital water meters have also been provided to increase the awareness of the residents about their own water consumption.

The project has been implemented by IHCC, which is specialized in sustainable Projects and Green buildings. — SG
