Discussions on Saudi-Pak prisoner swap in progress, says ambassador

Pakistan›s newly appointed ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Raja Ali Ejaz, has hailed Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman›s announcement that the release of Pakistanis in Saudi jails was under process.

«With the onset of the holy month of Ramadan, we expect some good news in this regard,» Ejaz said while addressing a welcome dinner hosted in his honor held at a local restaurant in Jeddah.

The dinner was organized by former parliamentarian and former federal minister Shahbaz Hussein Chaudhary. Masood Ahmed Puri, chairman Kashmir Committee Jeddah; Choudhry Nazir Ahmed, ex-MNA; Mohammed Hassan, consul at the Consulate General of Pakistan; Arshad Munir, consul (Press), the consulate staff and prominent members of the Pakistan community particularly from the city of Jhelum in the Punjab province attended the reception.

The ambassador said Pakistanis in Saudi Arabia were playing a major and worthwhile role in the development of their country.

Ejaz described Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman›s Pakistan visit as a major success and said this visit started a new era of Saudi-Pakistan relations.

«I am seeing these relations moving toward new heights,» he added.

He said during the crown prince›s visit a number of agreements and MoUs were signed, one of which was on the transfer of prisoners.

«Discussions on the transfer of prisoners is in process and once the agreement is signed, the prisoners will able to complete their sentences in their respective countries,» he said.

Ejaz said his priority in the Kingdom was the resolution of issues and problems faced by the Pakistani community. Assuring his full cooperation and support to the community members, he said, «My doors are open to all Pakistani brothers, sisters and elders and I will be happy to resolve your problems.»

He said he would keep visiting Jeddah regularly to remain in touch with the community.

The program started with the recitation of Holy Qur›an by Tariq Asghar.

Host Shahbaz Hussein Chaudhry welcomed ambassador and assured him of full cooperation from the Pakistani community. Tasawar Hussain Choudhry was the master of ceremony.
