April 21, 2019

DAMMAM — The 4th season of Thalassery-Mahe Cricket Club (TMCC Saudi Arabia Eastern Province Chapter) T10 Cricket Tournament ended with a bang as Mahe Strikers edged Kadirur Gurukkals to emerge winners after the first Super Over in the history of TMCC.

This year’s TMCC T10 tournament was conducted as usual at Sabsa Rakah ground and witnessed an unprecedented crowd for the event. Day 1 saw some competitive matches between the 6 teams and ended up with an open league with every team having a chance to progress to the next round. Day 2 started with 2 crucial league matches, very competitively fought and 2 teams bowed out.

Kadirur Gurukkals set up a semifinal encounter with Saidharpalli Kings while Mahe Strikers locked horns with Pallithazha Rockers in the second semis.

The final between Mahe Strikers and Kadirur Gurukkals turned out to be a humdinger of a match. Mahe Strikers stacked up 97-5 with some fine batting by their icon player Afnas Thayath.

Kadirur started watchfully with in-form captain Fazil Acharath and vice captain Shajahan opening. But wickets kept falling at regular intervals and finally Kadirur icon player Bipin Thattari had to smash a last ball for a six to tie the match and take the final into Super Over.

The Super over once again dominated by icon players from both the teams. However, TMCC legend Sajeer SP closed the game out for Mahe Strikers with a cool finish. It was huge change in fortunes for Mahe which began the tourney very much shaky.

Afnas Thayath of Mahe Strikers was adjudged Man of the Final and Man of the Tournament. Shajahan Koduvally of Kadirur Gurukkals was named Best Batsman, Rafnas was selected as Best Bowler of the Tournament and Best Fielder honors went to Vabeesh Vamanan of SS Guys.

To add to the festivities and to keep the huge crowd entertained, an Oppana (a popular form of social entertainment dance among the Mappila community of Kerala) and a kids fusion dance was also conducted. Some lip-smacking Thalassery-Mahe delicacies were available at the ground which was efficiently managed by the ladies wing of TMCC. Some awe-inspiring crafts and crochets were also available at the event. The main food stall drew caught attention with some delicious Thalassery-Mahe cuisine by TMCC’s very own Sajeem Mohammed (T4Tikka).
