RIYADH — The Shoura Council, in an ordinary session on Monday, approved an e-commerce draft regulation.
E-commerce is now being used widely in the Kingdom and covers many products.
The draft regulation aims at organizing and regulating issues related service providers and consumers and in relation to electronic data, e-contract, purchase through electronic platforms.
The draft regulation also relates to consumers’ rights.
There are currently 12.94 million e-commerce users in Saudi Arabia, with an additional 6.34 million expected to be shopping online by 2022.
Total Saudi e-commerce revenue across all product categories is $6.13 billion, and is expected to grow to $9.41 billion by 2021.
Fashion is currently the leading product category in Saudi Arabia, accounting for $1.91 billion market share, followed by electronics and media, which generates $1.85 billion in sales.
