NEW YORK — Saudi Arabia called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities by taking a firm stand against the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militias.
Saudi Arabia's Acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dr. Khaled Manzlawiy made the call after the Houthis targeted vital populated areas in the Kingdom using ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, which is a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law and relevant Security Council resolutions.
In a speech Friday at the UN Security Council during a session on "Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict", Manzlawiy said this year marked the 20th anniversary of the Security Council's adoption of its resolution 1265, "Protecting Civilians in Armed Conflict".
He said the Kingdom had been constantly urging the international community to adopt a unified and comprehensive approach to protect and keep civilians away from armed conflicts. — SPA
