JEDDAH — Two Saudis did their country proud by scaling the world’s highest mountain peak with a height of some 8,850 meters.

Saud Al-Eidi and Mona Shahab were accorded a warm welcome when they returned home on Monday.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation (SCHF) Prince Bandar Bin Khalid Bin Fahd Al-Saud hosted a reception for them.

The reception was attended by Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Special Olympics Federation Princess Reema Bint Bandar Bin Sultan, the CEO of the Federation Yasmin Al-Qahtani and many staff members of the General Sports Authority, the Saudi Federation and prominent figures.

The two champions reached the summit last Thursday. The trip took 60 days on the Himalayas.

Saud Al-Eidi said he was able to climb to the highest mountain peak in the world after continuous training and work.

“Our ambitions will not stop here. We will continue our work and strive to climb other peaks and hoist the Saudi flag there. We’ve now succeeded in reaching the summit after six years of training and planning,” he added.

Mona Al-Shihab expressed thanks and appreciation to the supporters for this accomplishment.

The result was achieved after long training, reading and gradually conquering one peak after the other, she said.
