Stop Iran from expanding nuclear program: Saudi Arabia

June 12, 2019

VIENNA — Saudi Arabia urged the international community and inspectors of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to increase pressure on Iran to halt expanding its nuclear program by publicizing further information related to Iran’s nuclear activities.

Yahya Shraheli, chargé d’affaires of the Saudi embassy in Austria, said this in Vienna while addressing the 5th session of the Council of Governors of IAEA on verification and monitoring of Iran activities.

Shraheli called for intensifying inspection within Iran to identify any sites likely to be used by the outlawed country to carry out undeclared nuclear activities, that may target the security of the states in the region, and to take the necessary measures to ensure that Iran is not able to develop techniques that may be used for military purposes.

“The peoples of the region do not need nuclear weapons to achieve security, stability, peace and development. Instead of this, they need enhancing of cooperation and building of confidence and good-neighborliness as well as to use their resources for the well-being and development of their peoples.”

Shraheli stressed that the international community cannot ignore the true nature of Iran’s intentions, which is evident by its aggressive behavior towards the countries in the region, in view of its hostile policy and tendency towards expansion and hegemony, with testing of ballistic missiles and developing other military devices. — SG/SPA
