A climatologist expects a third wave of hot weather to hit Saudi Arabia from Wednesday with temperatures touching on 50 degrees Celsius in some areas of the country.

Abdulaziz Al-Hossaini expects the hot wave to continue for about a week. He said the temperature might surpass to record highs in some parts of the country.

"Temperatures may go above 50 degrees Celsius in Madinah and the Eastern Province while it will be above 45 degrees Celsius in the other areas," he said.

Hossaini said the temperatures in the western and southern heights would be cool in the morning and moderate during the daytime.

"This will be the third hot wave since the start of summer on June 7," he said, adding that dust storms will continue in many parts of the Kingdom.

Meanwhile in its weather forecast for Wednesday, the General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection said the temperatures would be hot to extremely hot with active winds stirring dust in the Eastern Province, Al-Jouf, Madinah and the Northern Border Province in addition to the eastern parts of Riyadh.

It said thunderous clouds accompanied by active winds were expected in Jazan, Al-Baha and Asir, which might extend to the southern heights of Makkah.
