Saudi Gazette report

RIYADH —
The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs plans to launch the new contractor classification system early August, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

By that time, all the technical, administrative and executive enhancements to improve the sector’s performance will be finalized.

The contractor classification system aims to promote transparency and sustainability, which will reflect on developing the construction sector as a whole, said Saud Al-Thikri undersecretary for contractors’ classification.

The updated classification system includes building, maintenance, operating and services’ contractors, in accordance with the National Classification for the Economic Activities (ISIC4), he said.

The system has five classification levels, where class 1 is for mega projects and class 5 is for small and starting projects, while the levels in between depend on the contractor’s abilities, he added.
