JEDDAH —
Engineering and technical faults, sewage water and white ants are besieging the villas of the staff of King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah (KAAU) , according to informed sources.

The university handed over as many as 697 villas to the staff by lottery about nine months ago. The villas are located in the university premises.

A video tape showing sewage water, technical faults and white ants was circulated on the social media.

The university spokesman, Sahria Al-Bagami, said the video showed the ants and the sewage water in three units. He said seepage of water was caused by the high pressure in the central cooling system.

He said there are white ants in a number of villas in addition to the bad system of water drainage.

"The entire project is still in the guarantee period of one year signed with the executing company and that the villas have not been completely delivered to the university," he said.

The spokesman said the contractor is fully responsible from the legal and technical aspects and that he should rectify faults and compensate the university for any damages.

A number of teachers have asked the university to take legal action against the contractor before the guarantee period is over and said he is delaying the fixing of the faults until he is out of the guarantee period.
