Saudi Seasons seen to broaden KSA’s appeal to leisure travelers

August 21, 2019

JEDDAH — With the successful launch of Jeddah Season, Saudi Seasons is expected to broaden the Kingdom’s appeal to leisure travelers across the region, Colliers International Q2 2019 Mena Quarterly Review forecast.

Backstreet Boys, Super Junior, and Afrojack performed in the city, while visitors could take part in the many pop us spaces and cultural events.

The Taif and Al Soudah Seasons followed the Jeddah Season, with Riyadh Season expected in October.

Jeddah Season has contributed to an improved H1 2019 performance in Jeddah, establishing the potential for market recovery in the coastal city in FY 2019.

With over 2,000 keys entering the market in Q2 2019, and an expected countrywide growth rate of 9% per year, Saudi Arabia needs to attract additional regional and domestic tourists to maintain current occupancy levels.

Over 2,000 keys of branded supply entered the market in Q2 2019, with 60% classified in the 4-star segment.

This is inline with the prevalent trend of increased midmarket offerings across the GCC. 4-star supply

typically caters to a wide range of travelers, a factor of its greater affordability compared to 5-star hotels and greater level of service compared to 3-star hotels.

The Jeddah Season had a marked affect on the city’s occupancy and combined with few properties

entering the supply in H1 2019. This has halted a 4-year trend of year-on-year occupancy decline in H1 for the Jeddah hospitality market.

The Jeddah Market has the potential to initiate a recovery, buoyed by stronger than expected performance in H1. The improved levels of demand in the city are expected to result in an improvement in FY 2019 in occupancy.

Supply is expected to grow by 9% across the key cities in KSA. — SG
