Over 5 million Saudis aged 15-65 are single

More than five million Saudi men and women in the age group of 15-65 are not married, Makkah daily reported on Saturday quoting a statistical report by the General Authority of Statistics (GaStat) issued on the occasion of the International Youth Day which fell on Aug. 12.

The report said unmarried Saudis consisted of 3,006,480 men, representing about 73.8 percent and 2,237,983 women who were about 56 percent.

It said unmarried women in the age group of 35-39 years represented about 51 percent while those in the age group of 40-44 years were 52 percent and women between 50-54 years old who were not married represented about 56 percent.

According to the statistics unmarried Saudis in the age group of 15-19 were 909,054 men and 851,396 women and 96,021 men and 98,132 women in the age group of 35-39.

As many as 6,050 men and 4,348 women in the age group of 55-59 years have not been married so far.

In the age group of 20-24, there were 1,015,780 unmarried men and 703,578 unmarried women.

The report said in the age group of 25-29, there were 652,828 men and 335,623 women who are still single while in the age group of 30-34 years, the unmarried men were 245,855 and the women were 162,825.

According to the report, in the age group of 35-39, there were 98,132 unmarried women and 96,021 unmarried men.

The unmarried women were more than the unmarried men in the age group of 40-44. The women were 43,249 while the men were 39,398.

The report also said there were 5,152 unmarried women and 3,901 unmarried men who were 65 years of age or more.
