DUBAI — A senior army officer inadvertently blew the lid off Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region while praising the role of the country's armed forces.
Speaking at a local event, commander of the Iranian army Maj. Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi said on Tuesday that the forces have recently conducted secret missions and will continue to do so.
“Some of the recent army’s measures were not reflected in the media due to special security and intelligence considerations. And this trend will continue for some major and secret operations to safeguard the interests of the regime,” Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency quoted Mousavi as saying.
Conducting major operations “in anonymity and without propaganda” has more value, he said.
“The mere fact that we put our lives on the line against enemies and they feel our slap in their face is enough for us,” Mousavi added.
It is worth recalling that in May this year, four oil tankers — two Saudi-flagged, a Norwegian-flagged and an Emirati-flagged — were damaged by explosions in UAE territorial waters, off the port of Fujairah.
The US and its allies had accused Iran of almost certainly being behind the attacks. — Agencies
