JEDDAH — The National Family Safety Program (NFSP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and several other related authorities, will soon launch an anti-bullying training campaign for school counselors.
The campaign’s executive manager, Majid Al-Isa, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that their primary goal is to help school counselors prepared to handle bullying complaints.
The campaign will focus on counselors who are directly involved with students’ problems. Students who suffer severely from bullying will be referred to specialized counseling units to receive cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
Al-Isa, while commenting on bullying in schools, said: “The problem is measured by its means and quantity.” He admitted, at the same time, to having a problem with accurately documenting and identifying cases of bullying.
That is mainly due to some schools underestimating the serious effects that bullying has on students, he said.
