Manga Productions started a new partnership with King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) to illustrate the history of Saudi Arabia through comics and animation, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported Wednesday.

Manga Productions is an affiliated company of Prince Muhammad Bin Salman “Misk” Foundation. It focuses on producing animations and developing video games with creative and positive content targeting all different local and international groups of society (all segments of the society, both local and international).

The signing was in the presence of the Chairman of Manga Bader Alasaker and Secretary-General of Darah Dr. Fahad Alsemary. The partnership aims to illustrate the history of Saudi Arabia through comics and animation.

The project aims to document the history of the Saudi state through comics and animation to document historical figures and important events in the history of the Kingdom, from the first Saudi state in 1744 to modern history, and presented in an interesting and attractive way for the new generations.

The project is scheduled to start in 2019 to target school students and young people using the original comics art, which is the basis of the animation industry in Japan and current movies in Hollywood.

This project will be carried out in partnership with King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah), which will be in charge of scientific supervision and historical scrutiny of the historical facts and designs of the personalities and data.

It is planned to benefit from the project’s outcomes in the national museums and education publications related to the history of the Kingdom.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Manga Production Issam Bukhari said: “The company will work on this project under the supervision of Saudi cadres.

“The contracts will include providing training opportunities for the talented Saudi young men and women from the Kingdom, in addition to providing local training courses in the field of comics and animation (Manga).

“This will contribute to transferring the know-how from international experts and localizing this industry and strengthening the knowledge economy based on creativity and innovation.”
