11,000 marriages and 4,797 divorces recorded last month

More than 11,000 marriage contracts were concluded in all parts of the Kingdom during last month against 4,797 divorce cases, local daily Al-Watan said on Tuesday quoting a statistical report by the Justice Ministry.

The report said the marriage contracts were more by about 20 percent over their number at the same time the previous year and revealed that about 95 percent of the divorce cases were between Saudi couples.

It said an average of between 143-320 marriage contracts were conducted daily all over the Kingdom.

The report said about 48 percent of the divorce cases took place in Riyadh and Makkah.

It said there were between a minimum of 2,430 and a maximum of 5,192 divorce cases ds during the past 12 months.

It said during the past month, there were 4,318 divorce cases between Saudi couples while there were 479 divorces between foreigners.

The report said the marriage contracts in which one party was a Saudi represented about 89 percent of which 45 percent took place in Riyadh and Makkah.

It said the average daily marriage contracts ranged between 341 and 851.

According to the report, there were 1,191 divorce cases in Riyadh during the past month,1,108 in Makkah, 701 in the Eastern Province, 415 in Asir, 227 in Qassim, 175 in Hail, 156 in Tabuk, 143 in Jazan, 116 in Al-Jouf, 89 in Najran, 84 in the Northern Border Province and 70 in Al-Baha.
