Coalition refers operation report to JIAT for further assessment

RIYADH — The Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen forces has referred to the Joint Incident Assessment Team (JIAT) to assess their report of a targeted operation for any possibility of incidental losses and collateral damage, said the Coalition’s official spokesman Col. Turki Al-Maliki on Thursday.

Al-Maliki, in his statement, said: “The Joint Forces Command of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen has referred the result of a targeting operation to the Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT) to assess the possibility of incidental losses and collateral damage.

“Following a comprehensive study of the after action review of conducted operations for Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019, comprehensive review, operational vetting, and what was clarified by Coalition forces on the ground, there is a possibility of incidental losses and collateral damage as a result of engaging hostile infiltrating forces during targeting a (Houthi militia armed combatants’ gathering) in (Monabbih district, Sadaa governorate).

“All documents relating to this incident have been referred to the Joint Incident Assessment Team (JIAT) for further assessment and announcement of results.

“We underscore the Joint Forces Command’s commitment to applying the highest standards of targeting and implementing the customary International Humanitarian Law in its military operations.

“We will take all necessary procedures pertaining to incidents, god forbid, to achieve the highest levels of accountability and transparency.” — SPA
