February 26, 2020

JEDDAH — The Saudi Neurology Society (SNC) has succeeded in utilizing commercial malls against migraine disease, to raise society members’ awareness and understanding of the disease, its effects and complications on the patient’s lifestyle.

SNC recently concluded "Moving Against Migraine” campaign here. “The second stage is a continuation of the first one, which was launched on social media channels to reach the largest possible number of society members," said SNC board member Dr. Khaled Al-Qadi.

The campaign triggered great interaction from visitors of different age groups, where they viewed migraine disease symptoms and patients’ sufferings through a Virtual Reality (VR)) simulator. “Selecting malls as awareness platforms is important to reach largest number of visitors of different age groups, particularly during weekends that see more numbers of visitors” Al-Qadi explained.

According to Al-Qadi, the difference between "migraine" and "headache", and symptoms that patient suffers were among the most frequently asked questions by visitors in SNC booth in the mall.

SNC Twitter campaign #Move_Against_Migraine aims to provide medical help, advices and health guidelines on how to deal with migraine, treatment and symptoms alleviation, to reduce disease spread and its effects on life of patient and his family, to enable patients to live normally.

Migraine attacks can be categorized into two types, migraines without aura, which is the most common type, also called a classic migraine. International Headache Society (IHS) have identified migraine indicators as patient suffers five attacks in his life, (4 Hours to 72 hours) and pain is marked with two symptoms at least: it concentrates on only one side (unilateral) and appears as a pulse (moderate to severe).

The pain increases when patient exerts physical effort. During the attack, the patient suffers from, at least, one of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting or both; and sensitivity to light or noise. — SG
