DUBAI — All travelers coming to the United Arab Emirates from abroad should commit to a home quarantine period of 14 days and follow the instructions of relevant authorities, the state news agency WAM reported on Wednesday.

Any violation of home quarantine procedures, leaving houses, and exposing the lives of others to danger shall be punishable by law, UAE Attorney General Hamad Al Shamsi said.

In another significant move, the UAE temporarily banned its citizens from traveling outside the country, WAM reported citing a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The travel ban, which into effect on Wednesday (March 18), is part of the UAE's efforts to stem the spread of the pandemic and ensure the safety and well-being of citizens, the statement said.

Earlier on Wednesday, many embassies in the UAE, including that of the United Kingdom, announced that Abu Dhabi will temporarily suspend issuing all visas on arrival, with the exception of diplomatic passports holders, from March 19.
