RIYADH —
A public security spokesman clarified that goods trucks are exempted from partial curfew imposed in some cities and that there is no ban on their movement in between various regions of the Kingdom. “It has come to the notice of the Public Security that some drivers of vehicles transporting goods and supplies were not entering main cities during the period of partial curfew for fear of facing penal action after the authorities started imposing travel restrictions as part of measures to stem the spread of coronavirus,” the spokesman was quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as saying.

He said the Ministry of Interior had already identified 11 sectors that were exempted from curfew and these sectors include those working in transporting food and other essential supplies including vegetables and fruit so as to ensure that there is no disruption of their supply in all cities and regions of the Kingdom. It has been noticed that in the cases of some drivers, they did not receive specific messages from the truck owners with regard to the royal order that exempts those working in the essential public and private sectors.

The spokesman called on business owners and officials of these sectors to inform their workers about these exemptions to ensure that the message is clearly and explicitly delivered to them in view of the fact that most of the workers in the field of transportation and delivery services are speaking various languages other than Arabic. The spokesman also emphasized that the above mentioned vehicles need not any special permit to enter or exit cities and regions across the Kingdom.
