Commodities are abundant in the markets in reassuring quantities, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture and Chairman of the Food Security Committee Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Fadli as stating Sunday.

The meeting of the Kingdom’s Food Security Committee, held here on Sunday and presided over by Al-Fadli, reviewed the current situation, stressing the importance of continuing to have abundant quantities of food commodities and services for the citizens.

The meeting stressed that this can be achieved by guaranteeing continuity of the supply chains and the necessary preparations for all conditions. The participants underlined the importance of the quality and safety of the displayed food commodities.

The meeting discussed coordinating and unifying efforts of the competent authorities in the Kingdom’s food security system to maintain stability of the food commodity markets by discussing the precautionary measures that will guarantee continuity of the supply chains, and abundance of displayed food commodities in the light of the exigencies of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

This is apart from the precautionary measures taken by the Saudi government to stem the proliferation of coronavirus.

The outcomes of the meeting included coming up with several measures to closely monitor the quantities of displayed commodities, the rate of demand and storage of basic food commodities, the early detection of any developments necessitating a quick response, and unifying the efforts and coordinating the roles of government authorities and private sector companies to deal with any difficulties that might hinder the import, transportation and storage of goods.

Apart from this, the meeting stressed the importance of tightening supervision and control to guarantee that the goods on display are safe by implementing the best means for maintaining the quality and safety of displayed food commodities.
