ABU DHABI — The United Arab Emirates has suspended all travel permits, programs and applications nationwide during the national sterilization program, the state news agency WAM reported late Tuesday citing a statement from the Ministry of Interior.

In response to the commitment of the people and their adherence to precautionary measures related to restricting traffic and the movement of the public, the Ministry of Interior decided to suspend all permits, programs and applications for vehicular movement at the federal and local levels, the statement read.

The UAE has been carrying out a nationwide disinfection drive between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. which is tentatively scheduled to last until April 5.

The decision, which is part of the country efforts to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, effectively bars all vehicular movement in the night during the sterilization program except for those who work for vital sectors.

The ministry called on the public to stay at their home throughout the disinfection drive expect for absolute necessity.
